Julia's House

Charity of the Year

We are proud to announce our Charity of the Year for 2023/24 is Julia’s House Dorset and Wiltshire Children’s Hospices. We have chosen them for the vital work they do for children and their families in most cases during their short lives together.

We're proud to be supporting Julia's House for the next year as our Charity of the Year.Julia’s House is your local children’s hospice, looking after the most seriously ill children in Wiltshire and Dorset.  These children need 24 hour care for their complex and often rare medical conditions, which puts a huge amount of pressure on their families.  Their conditions are often incurable and many are sadly not expected to live beyond early adulthood.

Julia’s House’s dedicated team of nurses, carers, therapists, family support workers and hospice doctors provide a lifeline of care.  They offer clinical, emotional and practical support and essential respite breaks to give exhausted families time out from round-the-clock care, helping to prevent them from reaching breaking point.

Each family supported can tailor the care they receive in whichever way suits them best. Crucially, Julia’s House supports the whole family and not just the seriously ill child – they are there for parents, siblings, grandparents.

  • Our support is vital so Julia’s House can provide a lifeline of care to seriously ill local children and their families.
  • The charity receives 92 per cent of their funding from the local community.
  • Without this public support Julia’s House wouldn’t be able to continue to provide the lifeline of care to the most seriously ill children and their families in Dorset and Wiltshire.

The care provided by Julia’s House children’s hospice has been awarded ‘Outstanding’ following a recent inspection (December 2021) by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the highest rating to be awarded by the independent regulator of care and social care in England.

Together We Care

Charity of the Year

Each year we select a charity that fits within our ethos and course dens to become our Charity of the Year. Our first Charity of the year was in 2023/24 and was Julia’s House Dorset and Wiltshire Children’s Hospices.

Our Charity of the Year year runs from 1st April until the following 31st March.

During the year we will have a Donate button on this page that links to our dedicated Charity of the year Just Giving page as well as links to any challenges that we undertake to support that charity through the year. Feel free to support us by donating to these pages.

On our trainer table in our Face-2-Face courses we will have a collection box for any spare change that you may have.

We appreciate that 2023 is a tough year financially for everyone, and we are grateful for any support you feel you can give on our behalf.

One of our aims of doing this is to raise the awareness of the charity that we are supporting.

Julia’s House 20-mile Walk

On the 14th of May 2023, Steve took part in Julia’s House’s Great Walk – a 20-mile walk around Wiltshire in order to raise money for this wonderful charity. The number 20 is important as this is the 20th anniversary of Julia’s House.

Steve avoids walking at all costs, and therefore this challenge for him was a big ask that he completed in 8 and a half hours, taking in some of the beautiful vistas that the Wiltshire countryside has to offer. Up and down over the hills and the through the fields all for a wonderful course.

Thanks to the generosity of all of you who supported him, Steve raised £530 all in aid of Julia’s House.

Thank you all for your support!

Swindogs take over Swindon in the Big Dog Art Trail

From the 15th July until 3rd September 2023, there will be tails wagging a-plenty in Swindon, as our Julia’s House Dorset and Swindon Children’s Hospice are releasing 30 larger-than-life balloon dog sculptures across the town, along with 42 Swinpups, all taking part in an art trail. Fun for all the family to take ‘walkies’ around the town to find all the sculptures, while raising awareness of Julia’s House and the fantastic work that they do.

The Trail is being brought to the town, along with Julia’s House, by Wild in Art. Walkies for adults and children (and for breathing dogs, if you want) will cover some 16 miles across Swindon, taking in some of the town’s most notable landmarks and parks:

  • Broadgreen Community Centre,
  • Central Library,
  • GWR Park
  • Lydiard Park,
  • Nationwide’s Oakfield Development,
  • North Swindon Library,
  • Old Town Gardens,
  • Old Town Library & Arts Centre,
  • Pinetrees Community Centre,
  • Queens Park,
  • STEAM Museum,
  • St Marks Park,
  • Swindon Council Office,
  • Swindon Town Football Club,
  • Swindon Train Station,
  • The Link Centre,
  • The McArthurGlen Designer Outlet,
  • The Parade,
  • West Swindon Library,
  • Wyvern Theatre.

How do I find the Swindogs and Swinpups?

Julia’s House have released physical maps which are available to purchase for a small donation going to Julia’s House. Along with maps, they have produced an app where you can collect the sculptures, redeem rewards and find out more about their artists and the companies sponsoring them. You can get the app on:

We are going to go ‘Walkies’ once the trail goes live and maybe we will see you out on the walk!

If you go walking to see these beautiful structures, please remember to stay safe. Sun cream on, hat on and stay hydrated throughout.

But most importantly:

Have fun!

The Training Fox presents Charity Quiz Night

On the 16th May 2024, The Training Fox are hosting a Charity Quiz Night for our 2023/24 Charity of the Year, Julia’s House. This is the year end event of our relationship, and is a final opportunity to raise as much money as we can for our inaugural Charity of the Year. The event was due to be held in March, however due to unforeseen circumstances this has had to be postponed into 2024/25’s Charity of the Year.

We are actively looking for table sponsors, round sponsors as well as raffle prizes, should you wish to get involved in this way, please do e-mail Steve and let him know.

If you are unable to make the charity night, but still wish to make a donation, please do feel free to make a donation into our 2023/24 Charity of the Year Just Giving page.

We are looking forward to the big event, which is being held at Leonardo Hotels, formerly Jury’s Inn in Swindon town Centre.

Lets have a good night and make a lot of money for Julia’s House!
