Wiltshire Air Ambulance

Charity of the Year

We are proud to announce our Charity of the Year for 2024/25 is Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

We have chosen them for the vital work they do in saving lives. This year our chosen charity aligns nicely with our First Aid Course Den.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance is a registered charity providing an essential Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) in Wiltshire, Bath and surrounding areas. The charity relies on donations to continue saving lives.

The charity is not funded directly by the Government and receives no National Lottery grants.

In order to keep the lifesaving service operational it costs:
£4.5 million a year, over £12,000 per day.

The charity began operating in 1990 and the helicopter and crew have saved countless lives. The charity shared a helicopter with Wiltshire Police for 24 years but began operating as a stand-alone air ambulance from 2015 using a Bell 429 helicopter.

On average, Wiltshire Air Ambulance is called to 3 incidents a day to people who have suffered serious or life-threatening illnesses or injuries, including cardiac arrests, strokes or as a result of road traffic collisions.  The expertise of its critical care team, the specialist medical equipment they use and the speed of the helicopter can mean the difference between life and death.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance is operational up to 19 hours a day, every day, and the paramedics are trained in critical care skills and, together with the specialist medical equipment, it enables them to deliver gold standard medical care to patients. In 2021, the charity enhanced its clinical delivery further by increasing the number of pre-hospital consultant (doctors) shifts on its rota.

‘It’s your generosity
that enables us to help those who are
potentially at the worst moment in their lives.
We really are funded by you, flying for you.’

Craig Wilkins, Critical Care Paramedic.

During the year we will have a Donate button on this page that links to our dedicated Charity of the year Just Giving page as well as links to any challenges that we undertake to support that charity through the year. Feel free to support us by donating to these pages.

On our trainer table in our Face-2-Face courses we will have a collection box for any spare change that you may have.
